Montenegro

On June 3rd, 2006 Montenegro passed a resolution to end it's union with Serbia. Serbia will take over the UN seat formerly held by the Union of Serbia and Montenegro while Montenegro will apply for membership into the UN. (Update June 28th 2006: Montenegro has been approved for U.N. membership).

The flag of Montenegro was adopted on 12 July 2004 by the Parliament of Montenegro in accordance with the old Montenegrin flag: a Red banner with the double-headed eagle in its center.

The coat of arms of Montenegro derives from that of King Nikola. The Cyrillic initials НІ (i.e. NI) of King Nikola I are not present on the regular flag of Montenegro. [More info]
